What a wild month this was for streaming, absolute chaos. There have been a ton of blow-ups so far this season and unfortunately, we ran into a few of them. That’s streaming for you though. Living on the edge is fun, isn’t it?
There might be a lesson to be learned this season and that is that streaming in April isn’t fun. At least for the first half of April. When we start a season we actually don’t know anything, no matter how much we think we know. We don’t know what teams will be good or bad, which offenses will be explosive, and which pitchers will come out of nowhere and take the baseball world by storm. That’s just life and we have to accept it. Maybe in the future, don’t stream for a few weeks until we have some data to go off of.
Getting into my numbers and picks for the month we were a tale of two halves. Side note: I know I am technically one day early on this since it is April 30th but I’m busy tomorrow so here we are. Anyway, let’s look at our overall numbers from our shallow league, main, and deep league picks.
The good thing is we had more good streams than bad streams, especially with our main picks. The numbers overall are around league average ERA so that’s good but we are looking for better. What really killed us were the blowups of Brad Keller on day one (sigh) and Daniel Ponce De Leon ten days later. It could not have been more frustrating for me in the first half of the month. Working off no data is tough and I want to succeed so you can succeed.
As I mentioned earlier, it was really a tale of two halves. Here are the numbers of all of my picks combined split into two halves.
We really got going in the second half, we didn’t run into any major blow-ups and the underlying data is really starting to come to fruition. A 3.38 ERA and 1.09 WHIP from streamers are beyond fantastic. Again, maybe streaming in the first two weeks of the season isn’t the best idea.
Overall with all of the streams put together we did pull off a pretty successful month. Hopefully, you were able to dodge some of the bad picks and you were able to celebrate the good ones. We have a long season ahead of us and I can’t wait to continue this journey with all of you!
