Last Night's Result
Griffin Canning's defense almost let him down last night but he was able to pull it off. The WHIP wasn't great but again would have been better if not for his defense. Overall he pitched five innings while allowing one run and striking out seven. Virtually helping us in every category but WHIP. Overall Canning has had an interesting season and that elbow is still worrisome for the future. He has one start left against the Padres and I would sit him.
This one is a little tough to stomach and essentially is an experiment. If you take a mediocre pitcher and throw him against a horrible offense what happens? Barria hasn't been terrible and I think he will be pulled quickly if he gets in trouble which limits a blow-up. But the Rangers are green across the board and are bottom three in every category. This is too dreamy to not try it. Ponce de Leon looks like a great option as well but will be pitching on four days rest making it very risky.
