Streamer Of The Day 8/25

Morning Read: Since the substance crackdown happened in June I decided to look at the leaders in ERA on both ends of the spectrum. One player that I found interesting was Tyler Mahle. Since June Mahle holds a 4.03 ERA with a 4.16 FIP, not bad but not what most expected especially since in the first two months he has a 3.42 ERA with a FIP to support it. What has changed is Mahle's spin rate since June on his fastball, it has steadily decreased month by month. In April and May, it consistently had a 2500 to high 2400 RPMs where in July and August it has now dipped to the 2200 range. Now this could be fatigue because Mahle has set a new career-high for innings pitched in the majors, but it's hard to ignore the fact that perhaps he was using sticky tack. Make sure to monitor this the rest of the season and it could be important when it comes to drafting him for next season.

Today's Streamer: Tyler Gilbert wasn't able to replicate his no-hitter in his last start but none of us expected that anyway. Gilbert is a crafty pitcher who relies on command and a deeper arsenal. Getting the Pirates offense is a nice gift for Gilbert but I do have my reservations, regardless the matchup is too juicy to not take.

Shallow League Option: Josiah Gray certainly has had some luck this season with a high BABIP, FIP, and LOB% but we can't disregard the talent he holds. His breaking balls can be fantastic whiff pitches and I really think the future is bright for the young pitcher. He takes on a Marlins lineup that isn't anything to write home about and this should be a great stream.

Deep League Option: Edward Cabrera is getting the call for the first time in his career. There is no question about his stuff it is really just a matter of command. You all know I preach to never stream a rookies first start and this is no different but sometimes if there are truly no better options it's worth the shot. Just be careful because the Nationals offense has actually been kind of hot.

Looking For Strikeouts: Josiah Gray, Austin Gomber, Tarik Skubal, and Edward Cabrera.
