Streamer Of The Day 8/23

Morning Read: Cal Quantrill has been on a crazy run as of late and when it first started I looked into him but didn't find much to like. Let's do that again. In his last nine starts he has a 1.83 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and seven quality starts. Right off the bat these nine starts come with a .236 BABIP and 88.0 LOB%. This is expected though since we all know he isn't a sub-two ERA pitcher. The FIP looks good but the xFIP calls for a 4.36 ERA and Quantrill isn't really a strikeout pitcher so we have to look into his weak contact.

With the xFIP calling for regression, we have to look at his home run rate. The 0.67 HR/9 is an elite number for these nine games, the league average is 1.24. Quantrill typically isn't one to give up home runs throughout his career so although these numbers seem unsustainable we could see just a slight regression. To back his home run suppression even more in these nine games he has a 4.2 Barrel% against as well as an 84.8 MPH average exit velocity against, both really good numbers.

Quantrill reminds me of last year's Zach Plesac. Cleveland is exceptional at getting their pitchers to locate their pitches perfectly and that is what Quantrill is doing here. His slider, sinker, and changeup are all hitting the edges and the spots where they need to be. Much like Plesac, Quantrill doesn't have a ton of movement making me worry that if he loses his command he could start getting crushed once again. I think you need to ride him while he is hot but with not a lot of strikeout potential I think he does come with some risk.

Today's Streamer: A horrible, terrible, no good slate for today brings us to one pick and it is a pick you should not make. Daniel Lynch takes out the Houston Astros and he has shown that he can pitch well against talented offenses so we will just go with him. Don't. Do. This.
