Morning Read: Josiah Gray had a tough matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays last night and he was able to step up. He pitched six innings allowing just two runs while striking out four. The strikeouts are a little low but against a very tough Blue Jays offense this was impressive. The slider induced ten whiffs and he finished with a 30 CSW% so perhaps he got unlucky in the strikeout category.
Since his move to Washington Gray has started four games and he holds a 2.86 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP. While I do like Gray there seems to be some big regression looming. In these four starts, he has a .200 BABIP and 100% LOB rate. It isn't actually 100% but I think Fangraphs rounds up. Clearly some luck there especially if you see the 6.13 FIP and 4.35 SIERA. The good thing is that the strikeouts seem legit. He had a 24.4 K% in this time frame and it is matched with a 15.3 SwStr% which means those strikeouts would actually go up.
While Gray should see some regression in his numbers the strikeouts should stick or perhaps even improve. I think this makes him a hold and someone to ride out because even if he does regress you can play matchups and get some really solid starts from him.
Today's Streamer: With a small slate there aren't a ton of options for today. I am going to take a shot with Matt Manning against the Angels. The Angels' offense isn't very good, especially without Mike Trout. They have been struggling as of late with a 79 wRC+ and .639 OPS in the last seven days. Manning doesn't have overwhelming stuff and he is definitely a wild card. The risk might not be worth the reward especially with the lack of strikeouts but he is better than the other options.
Shallow League Option: The clear stream for today is Chris Flexen against the Rangers. They have been arguably the worst offense in the league for the last month. The best part is that they struggle against right-handed pitchers. Flexen hasn't been pitching great but he should be able to breeze through this start.
Deep League Option: Matt Manning.
Looking For Strikeouts: Chris Flexen and Madison Bumgarner.
Looking For Quality Starts: Madison Bumgarner, Mike Minor, and Chris Flexen.
Looking For Wins: Matt Manning, Chris Flexen, and Michael Wacha.
Looking For Ratios: Matt Manning, Chris Flexen, and Madison Bumgarner.
Tomorrow's Streamers: Miles Mikolas.
The Day After: Triston McKenzie, Eric Lauer, and Kyle Freeland.
