Streamer Of The Day 6/26

Morning Read: I said on the live stream yesterday that I wanted to look into Jake Odorizzi. The reason being is that in his last starts he has a 32.7% K-BB% and 13.8 SwStr%. Both of those are above average, in fact the K-BB% is elite. I always like to check out the game logs to see if anything new is happening.

Right off the bat, I noticed in these three starts he only let up one home run, something that was haunting Odorizzi. What he has done differently is he started to throw his fastball more. His usage of the pitch has risen from 59.1% to 65.6%. In all three games, he throws it over 60% of the time.

This makes sense because his fastball has been a great pitch so far this season. Hitters only have a 64 wRC+ and .248 wOBA against it. He also is creating a lot of whiffs and some chases which is actually kind of wild. Using the fastball more has helped both of his secondary pitches in the cutter and split-finger.

The Astros are known for getting the most out of their pitching staff. While it looks like Odorizzi is well on his way to a better season I can't help but wonder if his secondary pitches are good enough. He gets the Tigers tomorrow and they are a pesky offense so I'd like to see how he pitches against them. If you need pitching though, I'd go grab him now and take a shot.

Today's Streamer: Okay let's get back on track after yesterday's horrendous showing. Adrian Houser continues to pitch well at home. Now I know the strikeouts aren't going to be there but he has a juicy matchup. The Rockies are never the same offense when on the road. They aren't making quality contact as of late and struggling against right-handed pitching. Let's trust the process.

Shallow League Option: If JT Brubaker is available in your league he is the play. He has been pitching really well and locating his breaking balls consistently at the bottom of the zone. His recent uptick in SwStr% could mean more strikeouts are coming and the Cardinals certainly have strikeout prone hitters.

Deep League Option: Adrian Houser.

Looking For Strikeouts: JT Brubaker, Logan Gilbert, and Alex Cobb.
