Morning Read: Don't look now but Vince Velasquez has started four games and has put up a 3.20 ERA. Last night against the Braves he pitched for 5.1 innings with one earned run and six strikeouts. The problem here is that all of his pitches were hit hard and he only had five whiffs total on his curveball and changeup.
When you look at Vince Velasquez he seems pretty on the outside but once you get to know him you realize how ugly he is on the outside. Think me but opposite. In games he started his 3.20 ERA comes with a 6.16 FIP, .208 BABIP, and a 100.0% LOB% (Fangraphs rounds up). There is a ton of luck here and nothing has really changed with Velasquez. Don't go running to the wire to add him.
Today's Streamer: Dane Dunning has been fantastic so far this season. At home he has a 2.81 ERA and in the last two weeks, he holds an 18.6% K-BB% and 11.0 SwStr%. Getting the Mariners at home seems like a dream matchup. This should feel as good as jumping into bed after a long day. Damn, I am getting old. The Mariners strike out a ton and with Dunning's above-average stuff he should be able to go deep and get you strikeouts.
Shallow League Option: Dane Dunning.
Deep League Option: There are a ton of options for shallow leagues today but if you are in a deep league it is slim pickings. Tyler Anderson has been pitching well but he goes into Chicago making it a little too risky. We are going to roll with Brett Anderson against Miami. The Marlins' offense tends to disappear at times so maybe this works? This is a desperation throw so don't be so eager to do this.
Looking For Strikeouts: Dane Dunning and Cole Irvin.
Looking For Quality Starts: Dane Dunning, Cole Irvin, Adam Wainwright, and Johnny Cueto.
Looking For Wins: Nick Pivetta and Adam Wainwright.
Looking For Ratios: Dane Dunning and Shane McClanahan.
Tomorrow's Streamers: Jeff Hoffman (might not want to do this).
The Day After: Brady Singer and Adbert Alzolay (streamer of the week).
Two Start Options: Adbert Alzolay @CLE, @DET
Alex Wood and Logan Webb vs TEX/@PITT
