SP Streamer's Updated Top 50 Closers

Anyone who already purchased our Draft Kit has already seen the previous version of these rankings with a little write up on each pitcher. There has been some news/trades that shook these up a bit since I last did them for the kit. Below are the updated rankings with notes on any movement.

Tier 1

1. Josh Hader

2. Kirby Yates

3. Aroldis Chapman

Who's moved:

Nobody here, Hader could be in his own tier.

Tier 2

4. Liam Hendriks

5. Roberto Osuna

6. Brad Hand

7. Ken Giles

Who's moved:

Going with what I should have done initially and moved Hendriks to the top of this tier. This group feels like it's up to your personal preference.

Tier 3

8. Edwin Diaz.

9. Kenley Jansen

10. Taylor Rogers

11. Nick Anderson

12. Hector Neris

13. Brandon Workman

14. Mark Melancon

15. Craig Kimbrel

Who's moved:

A lot of movement in this tier, the Pagan trade opens the door for Nick Anderson to close in Tampa, and if he claims the role to start the year, there is obvious top 10 closer upside. I dropped Kimbrel to the bottom of this tier as well, he may return to form but I’d rather bank on the others here.

Tier 4

16. Raisel Iglesias

17. Jose Leclerc

18. Hansel Robles

19. Giovanny Gallegos

20. Archie Bradley

21. Alex Colome

22. Keone Kela

23. Joe Jimenez

24. Ian Kennedy

25. Sean Doolittle

Who's moved:

Bumped up Robles a bit and dropped Colome (lack of k’s is unappealing). I could see Bradley easily out earning this whole tier but not convinced Lovullo will use him strictly in the 9th. Doolittle gets a bump up because he's a better bet for saves than those in the next tier, but don't trust Washington to not use a closer by committee. I would like to see Gallegos officially named closer, looks like it's trending that way. Cannot decide for the life of me between Kela/Jimenez/Kennedy.

Tier 5

26. Will Smith

27. Matt Magill

28. Drew Pomeranz

29. Emilio Pagan

30. Mychal Givens

31. Ryan Pressly

32. Dellin Betances

33. Scott Oberg

Who's moved:

Pagan drops to the group of top non-closers after the trade to SD, good pitcher but may be 3rd in line for saves (love Pomeranz). Oberg drops a bit after Wade Davis was named closer, but I’d expect to see Oberg in the role before May.

Tier 6

34. Chad Green

35. Seth Lugo

36. Tommy Kahnle

37. Robert Stephenson

38. Matt Barnes

39. Brandon Kintzler

Who's moved:

Removed Josh James from the list entirely because he may earn a rotation spot. This tier has some newcomers with a bit of shuffling. Kintzler probably isn't in the top 50 without the closer role which he is currently penciled into.

Tier 7

40. Colin Poche

41. Daniel Hudson

42. Trevor May

43. Diego Castillo

44. Blake Treinen

45. Amir Garrett

Who's moved:

Bumped Barnes and Stephenson up to the above tier, they feel a notch above this group. Garrett moved up from tier 8 for the same reason.

Tier 8

46. Andres Munoz

47. Will Harris

48. Adam Ottavino

49. James Karinchak

50. Wade Davis

Who's moved:

Wade Davis now occupies Watson’s spot at the bottom of this list after being named closer. Still don't trust him but he’s worth a shot late if you're chasing saves. Karinchak replaces Watson on the list, much more upside and don't know that Watson is worth rostering in many formats.
