Outside the box is a daily article that is simple, fresh, and innovative. Here, we will be walking throw away pitchers to the pedestal for a quick examination of their skills.
On The Pedestal: Matt Moore
Current ADP: 573
Brief Examination: Matt Moore signed a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies after pitching in Japan for a year. There he was able to increase his velocity on his fastball to 95 MPH, something that is intriguing. Moore hasn’t thrown that hard since 2012, a year where his fastball was at its best.
Moore always had a decent changeup and curveball, he used both to manipulate hitters and induce weak contact. He won’t get you strikeouts but producing a decent WHIP isn’t out of the question.
Interesting Stat: Between 2011 and 2014 Moore pitched 347 innings with a 3.53 ERA.
Role: It isn’t clear if the Phillies go with Moore or Chase Anderson as their fifth starter. That said Moore really isn’t anyone you want to be drafting. Leave him on the wire and see if that fastball can bring him back to 2012.
