Outside Of The Box: Alex Wood

Outside the box is a daily article that is simple, fresh, and innovative. Here, we will be walking throw away pitchers to the pedestal for a quick examination of their skills.

On The Pedestal: Alex Wood

Current ADP: 507

Brief Examination: Alex Wood is known for his stellar slider and changeup combination. Although his pitches lack movement he is able to fool hitters based on deception. The 2020 season wasn’t so great to Wood. He finished with only nine appearances,12.2 innings, and a 6.39 ERA. His season was cut short by left shoulder inflammation, an area that has hurt him in the past.

He signed with the San Francisco Giants in the offseason and said that he felt like the organization has a lot of faith in him and they match each other’s needs perfectly. Flashing back to last year the Giants worked wonders with two veterans in Kevin Gausman and Drew Smyly. Can they work their magic on Alex Wood?

Interesting Stat: Between 2014 and 2018 Wood pitched a combined 725.2 innings with a 3.31 ERA, 3.43 FIP, 3.70 SIERA, and stellar 0.81 HR/9.

Diagnosis: The juice might be worth the squeeze. Take a shot in deep leagues if you have a solid innings floor.
